i won't even lie, gratitude lists were a joke for me until one of my previous therapists helped me to understand their purpose. writing things down that your thankful for doesn't sound like much until you understand the why and how it applies to you.⁣⁠

i was (sometimes still am) a negative nancy. not that i was intentionally spewing negative shit. it was more that i was conditioned to expect the worst possible outcome, something i'm pretty sure i picked up for my dad. watching him constantly operate in "survival mode" made me think i needed to always be prepared for shit to go left.⁣⁠

it's scarcity thinking.⁣⁠
a focus on what is lacking.⁣⁠

but with gratitude lists, they've helped me to shift the way i think. instead of dreading what's to come, i try to be excited about the possibilities. i try to look for the beauty in my day, instead of laser focusing on everything that went wrong. and i try to be thankful for the little things because well, it just makes me feel good.⁣⁠
