Guest Bloggers Takeover // Know That You’re Enough

First of all, I would like to thank Yetti for starting YettiSays and for giving such an intimate and personal look into her life. I also would like to thank her for opening up her space as a platform for other bloggers like me. It’s can be rough out here. Everybody blogs but not everyone has a strong blogging foundation and team of virtual blog sisters that have carved the way for other bloggers. Especially black women bloggers.
With that being said, my virtual blog sister, Yetti, posted a quote at the end of her newsletter that struck me to the core:
“Know that you are enough. Know that you are whole as is. We are all enough.”
This quote from Yetti came at a time when I didn’t know I needed it. There are so many times when we all go through situations and we think the lesson has passed, and we’ve moved on. Then to our surprise, something comes crawling back into our thoughts and reminds us that there is something still tugging in our spirit. That something still needs to be addressed.
This quote did that for me.
“Know that you are enough. Know that you are whole as is. We are all enough.”
I have always struggled with letting people know “too much” about my life. I like to handle things by myself. The moment I let someone in too close could be the moment I crumble and my life is no longer fully in my control. But sometimes it’s the complete opposite.
Going through a rough situation with a guy, I asked my very close friends their take on the situation and of course, I received the “Aw, I hate you have to go through that.” But after the pity party concluded, we got serious, and the conversation turned into a mental pep talk.
“It all boils down to knowing what you deserve. YOU know what you deserve.”
Here I was upset, guzzling margaritas with a plate of enchiladas trying to hold back tears as she encouraged me to move forward for me. It didn’t matter if the guy decided he was no longer interested in me.
I’m interested in me.
After the situationship drama died down, I got a new job. I had prayed for a new job, for a start to my career, and it finally happened. After the newness began to wear off of my new job and I started waking up without an alarm at 6:30 am. My inner being started to panic.
I can’t do this. I’ve never actually worked in this field. What if I’m not as good as I made myself seem? What if I fail and get fired? What if I make a huge mistake and cost the company it’s reputation?
Every “what if” clouded my mind, and although I told no one how I was truly feeling, I was shaken up. A few days went by with conversations of my new job and I never mentioned exactly how nervous I was to anyone. It wasn’t until one day after church my pastor said something to me that spoke directly to my spirit and my exact situation. Leaving church that day, my pastor shook my hand and looked directly into my eyes and said, “You earned this position. Don’t let anyone or anything make you think you don’t deserve this job.”
Know that you are enough. Know that you are whole as is. We are all enough.
Sometimes you have to step your “outer self” aside to receive what your “inner self/spirit” needs to hear. Regardless of religion, you should be in tune with what’s going on behind the scenes WITHIN you. Before you look into the next person’s life and what makes them happy on Instagram, know what’s going on with you. Being mentally in a good place is not easy but it will never be easy if you can’t address it. Know yourself. Love yourself. And know you are good enough.
