The end of the month is nearing and I’m still missing one thing from the above list, but the simple fact that I accomplished nine out of ten things on this list is good enough for me. The one thing missing is the Skydiving, which I have paid for (thanks to groupon) but I have been on travel or bed rest each and every time I have wanted to do it! I rarely get to see my bed most weekends so I’ll push that out till June.
Before I get into my update I wanted to give a huge thank you to those who joined in with me for the FckFear Campaign. It is not over, it’s ongoing, but to those who have hashtagged and submitted entries, I thank you and kudos to you! I’ll be spotlighting a FckFear submission every Friday so please do look out for that, and join me for the #FckFears Twitter Chat / Questionnaire taking place June 11th!
Don’t forget to check out how you can submit, my previous updates [one, two] and my Social Anxiety story:
Take a gym class at a very popular gym
Two Sundays ago I attended Hot Yoga at the Harlem Bikram Studios. It was 90 minutes of pure heat, 15+ poses, and a whole lot of thinking. Did I enjoy it? Meh. I wasn’t really in a good place when I went, I simply went to get out of my thoughts and stress, but I would most definitely do it again. I damn near had a panic attack when entering the studio room, everyone in there was borderline naked. I’m talking shorts that double as panties… on men kind of naked. Eventually the anxiety passed and I survived with a few breaks and a liter of water.
Attend an afterwork event in NYC
After work May 15th, I headed over to PWC for some drinks and finger food. Note to self: Do not allow the staff to flirt with you in front of your boss, you will become their go to person when they want a certain appetizer or alcoholic beverage.
Host 2 Events
In April, I hosted my first Certified 10 brunch. Certified 10 is my baby, my organization that serves the purpose of helping other women build or rebuild their sense of self worth & self love. It promotes community, growth & acceptance of oneself. Being that I am now officially doing this on my own (hooray), I’ve changed the direction of things and decided to get the show on the road with a think tank session. We met, we ate, we laughed and then we got down to business. It gave me a chance to meet new people, make a new friend in NYC and opened the gates to building a team. The next think-tank session will be next month in Massachusetts, I’ve just finalized the the venue so if you’re interested and you’re in the area let me know! I would love to pick your brain.
The second event was just the gathering of coworkers, something I haven’t been able to do out of sheer laziness, but after work my co-workers and I headed to a nearby rooftop, chatted and drank (water in my case) and then we…[wait for it] partied [ gasp ].
Pitch an idea
So this… was kind of a cop out. I pitch Certified 10 all the time lol ;-).
Party TWICE in NYC
First time was unintentional: one minute I’m in Harlem on a date, next we’re in Brooklyn at Voodoo, and then grabbing breakfast at 5:00AM on 14th street. I’m not sure if I’ll ever get used to this 4:00am leaving the club routine, but nonetheless I actually enjoyed myself.
Second time was with the coworkers as stated before.
Take a 30 minute walk at a park
The High-Line. It’s my favorite place in New York City, besides Harlem / Heights Tavern. It’s the park in the sky. When I first moved to New York I would frequently visit and people watch and sometimes write. Since then I’ve kind of avoided it in the hopes of avoiding the fact that someone tainted this beautiful place for me. But with just an hour strolling last month, I made a few new memories and quickly remembered why I loved it so much. It’s my new safe haven in NYC.
